Currently I am living in my winter home in North Queensland (northern Australia). I live in Cardwell, population 1412, and next town of some size is Ingham, 4500 residents. This is a very rural area producing sugar and beef cattle. At the local annual town show, they have many events centering on the rural life.
In this photo, you can see the first event in the wood chop competition. This event attacks no flimsy bodied men ??“ most are powerfully built, explosive athletes. This competitor was the youngest in the competition, interesting polo shirt representing the colours of Indigenous Australians. This was his first strike at the timber.
As a side note, Cardwell was originally settled as a timber producing town in the 1860s.

Ronald, this young man is not joking. Look how deep his first stroke went. He looks determined. Great image for sure at peak of action.   Posted: 07/09/2025 00:09:55

I really like the action shot - not someone I'd like to scuffle with in a dark alley :). His right bicep looks massive. Overall great shot at the peak of action.   Posted: 07/10/2025 13:45:55

I agree with the other comments. This fellow looks serious and powerful. Thanks for showing competitive chopping wood. We have lumberjack competitions in my home state, but I have not ever attended the competitions, including log-rolling, sawing, and chopping. Maybe I should go some time.   Posted: 07/29/2025 05:30:00
