About the Image(s)

Title: Scrum

A scrum is a key part of Rugby, where players from both teams bind together and compete for the ball. It usually occurs after certain infractions or stoppages. In a scrum, the forwards from each team bind together and push against the opposing team to gain possession of the ball. One member of the non-offending team feeds the ball into the scrum, and the battle for possession begins.

Isaac, the low perspective makes this an interesting image. Also being able to see the ball is great. Interesting image for those of us with little knowledge of Rugby. Bruce   Posted: 07/03/2025 04:54:12

Hi Isaac this is a fine rugby scrum shot all players are behaving themselves by trying to push forward into the opposition pack. Sometimes players try to spin the pack of square trying for a penalty. This is one of the most exciting aspects of Rugby Union pushing and heaving against each other, its no place for faint hearts, many serious injuries have resulted from a player in the front row falling beneath the pack. Two key elements exist in the photo the fly half ready to place the ball into the middle of the scrum, can see very clearly from outside, loosehead or tighthead prop position. Secondly a very clear photo of the breakaway forward with red bicylce hat on, this player can do as his title suggests breakaway from the scrum and launch an attack on defending players, he is not restricted by pack players wrapping arms around him. I have tried many shots like this while it looks easy it is not, often packs move they often collapse or swing sideways making photography difficult.   Posted: 07/09/2025 23:56:43

Agree with Bruce - I have limited knowledge of rugby, but I really like this action shot. Great detail, you can see the ball, and great composition. Great shot!   Posted: 07/10/2025 13:47:07

I do not know much about rugby being from the south. I certainly didn't know what scrum was. I do know what an interesting story telling photo is and this is one for sure. Very sharp and colorful. Great job!!!   Posted: 07/10/2025 16:44:35

What a great shot! I like the tangle of arms and legs. I like the camera angle and the ball in view. I like the concentration on the face of the player with the red cap. I like the long, narrow crop. And I like all the legs of the scrum in the frame.   Posted: 07/29/2025 04:57:05
