This photo was taken at the Road America Racetrack in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin a while ago. Admission is expensive on race day, so I went on “practice” day Friday before the weekend motorcycle races. That’s the only time I’ve been at the track, but I should really go back some time.
I found a nice position at Turn 6, an almost right angle left turn, which follows a long, uphill straightaway. This forces the cyclists to slow down and lean into the turn, with the cyclist’s left knee sometimes touching the track. The edge of the track has yellow and red bricks, so I had good color combinations when red, yellow, or blue cycles went into the turn.
There’s no competition in this image, but do you think it has a chance for acceptance in PJ international exhibitions?
I was using my first digital camera, a Canon 30D, and the lens is the EF 100-400mm zoom lens at 400mm. The settings were f:5.6, ISO 200, at 1/1600 sec under sunny skies.

Gerald, I see a good panning here with the background and the wheels blurred by the speed, but the bike and rider are sharp. Perhaps, if you have the real state, I would add some more space in front of the bike and biker's helmet.   Posted: 05/09/2025 20:04:32

I actually cropped some of the right side off because I thought this crop was better-balanced, But I'll look at again before I enter it in international exhibitions.   Posted: 05/09/2025 21:08:16

Gerald, Your image shows a close-up of What the rider goes through and techniques used to navigate around curves. A view not always seen in these types of images. To my eye the composition is fine with just about the right space on the right. Bruce   Posted: 05/12/2025 15:20:35
