About the Image(s)

Title: Learning to Skim board

We were in the Basque region of Spain (San Sebastian) and took a day trip to Biarritz, which is the Basque region in France, located only 22 miles away from the border with Spain. It is a luxurious seaside tourist destination known as Hotel du Palais (originally built for the Empress Euginie in 1855, with casinos and its surfing culture). While walking on the beach, there is a large natural pool of water on the sand left by the high tide, and it was low tide at the moment. I saw this kid learning to skim board. The water was very cold.

Used a Nikon D850 with the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 300 mm and these settings: ISO 500, f/10 and 1/1600 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.

Hi Isaac. This is a well captured photo of skimboard surfing. The boy is in the right position moving forward. As a point of difference you could have tried panning, this would have blurred the background even more with the waves behind looking like two tiered blue and white streaks. The only issue with my suggestion is that you may have had to go down to shutter speed 50/1, ISO 100 and photo overexposed. Beach scenes often have very bright light conditions making my suggestion not attainable, but definitely wirth a try.   Posted: 05/09/2025 05:11:55
