April 2025 - The Thrill of Victory

About the Image(s)

Title: The Thrill of Victory

About the image: Taken in Covington, Washington. Even though there is no ball in this image, I liked the way it shows the joy that comes after the effort and determination of winning a championship game.

Bruce, the thrill of victory always overpowers the sad sensation of defeat. The kid with the arms wide open is the center of attention. The image is sharp.   Posted: 04/04/2025 00:05:14

Hi Bruce,
You have a nice people image here. A few suggestions:
The kid with the arms open is the center as Isaac pointed out. If you want to simplify the image, remove the two kids in the background, you can only see parts of them. and cut out the kids and replace the background without the fence. Increase the contrast and lighten the arms kid. It works as a photojournalism shot as is.

Hi Bruce. A fine shot of success and I know from my sports photography this is the shot that clubs want and will put this type of photo as typical of their club on home page. Tom says remove the fence from the photo, not allowed in Photojournaliem nor is even blurring the fence other than what the lens will do hence F2.8 lenses used. Removing the fence also takes out the genuineness of the photo it shows this happened on a real soccer pitch, its believable, same goes for the white lines on the ground. Perhaps the two boys to the left are unnecessary but this would leave a half body on the boy next to outstretched arms player. Soccer, ice hockey, field hockey and rugby are all congested games, rugby the most 30 players on the ground and 3 officials means that a lot of shots will have overlapping people. Something you have to live with as a sports photographer.   Posted: 04/14/2025 21:24:44

Thanks Ronald, thanks for your comments which always show a depth of experience that is appreciated. For me the players on the side add to the image because of the obvious joy on their faces. Bruce   Posted: 04/15/2025 20:45:41
