About the Image(s)

Title: Breaking Loose

This image is a follow up to the March and related to the Rugby game. Here we have what it looks to me like the MVP of the Fort Lauderdale team (white uniform) running with the ball.

Created with a Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor zoom lens Z100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 @ 310 mm and these settings: ISO 640 (auto), F/5.3 and 1/2500 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.

Hi Isaac. It is interesting that you have found an interest in Rugby, it is a fine game that in time you probably will become enthralled, it is very addictive and you can only admire the players who devote themselves to it. Strong bonds are developed between players and many reunions occur.
Your photo is typical of the title you have used and often only the fullback stands between a try score. The player with the ball has leg and arm forward in the drive position and the other oposition players seem to be in his wake. The player to the left head could have been cropped out. A fine rigby shot.   Posted: 04/04/2025 05:52:57

I left that player on purpose to create some tension and hear your opinions about it. H is just picking in.   Posted: 04/04/2025 15:03:39

I like having the player on the left in the image. I agree with you that it adds some tension. Is it possible to show more of him? You can see the focus and tenacity of the players. Great shot and very sharp.   Posted: 04/17/2025 14:42:21

I have only seen a few rugby games and was impressed with the amount of courage it must take to play . The last game I watched was 50 years ago but still remember the two broken arms and a concussion. You captured some good action, image is sharp with good color exposure and composition. I would not include the head, it seems to distract from the action but is also an interesting feature of your image.
By the way will be heading to Florida on 4-19, first to Alligator Farm then to the West coast for FT Desoto, Cape Coral, Venice rookery. Bruce   Posted: 04/07/2025 19:12:01

Hi Isaac,
Nice action shot.
I would definitely crop out the floating head on the left side.
Visually, it's a distraction, and cropping it simplifies the image.
I see what you did in post. Subject select to lighten and inverse to darken. If you look again you can see where the mask wasn't exactly right..between their legs.
Also by doing it this way, they look like cutouts. When you do the background mask, take your brush on 25% opacity, and brush away the mask in the foreground so that it fades into the background. You will get a more realistic looking image.   Posted: 04/13/2025 22:11:42
