About the Image(s)

Title: Rugby Lineout

Was created a couple of weeks ago here in Fort Lauderdale ??“ Florida. A friend of mine told me that the week before he found out there was a Rugby League here in Florida with many teams, and they were in open competition. This game was Fort Lauderdale (white uniform) vs Orlando, played locally. This is my first experience with Rugby, so I did not know what to anticipate. While the game was evolving, I noticed several things that repeated themselves, and after doing some reading, I found out what they were called and what they were for.

I used a Nikon Z8 with the Nikkor zoom lens Z 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 @ 210 mm and these settings: ISO 360, f/5.0 and 1/2500 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.

Hi Issac,
Perfectly captured image. Nice. I would make this a vertical crop and remove the players on both sides as they don't add to the story. The top needs more breathing space if you have it to give.
Best,
Tom

I like Bruce's crop below for the reasons he gave.

Hi Isaac. A well captured photo of the rugby lineout, you have perfect lighting on this day all colours bold and bright. Ball well positioned as uncertainty of who will take possession. I pressume the upper guy with blue jumper will win so therefore the waiting number 2 will receive the ball so his position adds to the story. Perhaps the other 2 players to the left are not necessary as Tom has pointed out. You have the background well blurred because the spectators are about as far away as possible, not always the case with rugby.   Posted: 03/06/2025 20:28:30

Hey Isaac, I agree with the others comments, however for me, your new crop eliminates the scale of the scene so might go with a more narrow crop. I really like the story the image tells so worthy of several opinions. Bruce   Posted: 03/25/2025 14:20:58
