About the Image(s)

Title: “Layup Shot”

American basketball is very popular in Australia. My photo does not show its popularity in terms of spectators. This shot was taken only a week ago at my local suburban court which also hosts games in Australia South-East coast division 2. The game was veterans played by men probably all over 50 years old. Two times 15 minute halves and then onto the next game. The photo could still be further process as I believe it's OK sharp but could be better. I liked the photo as it only has two players and an atmosphere typically Australian at this level, one of the players said big turn up tonight 2 spectators and a photographer, 1 spectator my wife the other the captain's mother 93 years old.

Ronald, The crowd size reminds me of my beginnings of playing soccer where the crowd size was similar and teams were made up of all ethnic players and names such a Germania, Incas, Hollandia, Hellas the Greek team I played on even though I am not Greek. Now, there are more youth soccer players in the US than basketball players. Bruce   Posted: 11/13/2024 03:08:45

Ronald, great image about these senior guys keeping up with the sport. I like your iteration presented in Group 1 of Photojournalism division: https://psa-programs.com/pjd-idg/group01/image.php?iid=1209 , it has more body and face language. Great image anyway.   Posted: 11/14/2024 16:57:09

I also like the concentration on just two players, and the action is great. I tilted the image slightly to make the backboard exactly vertical, cropped out the distractions on the left side, cropped the top to eliminate much of the ceiling and one of the lights, and cropped the bottom yellow line on the floor. I also burned the four remaining lights to make the lights less harsh.   Posted: 11/30/2024 01:08:12
