About the Image(s)

My artwork for July 2024 is of a mother Rhino and calf, in the wild, taken from my vehicle, with the necessary camera support. I selected the image and divided it into several sections. The selected sections were processed in PS layers with several filters and blend modes to achieve the result. The aim was to emphasize the Rhino skin and create an oil painting effect, with the animals standing prominently out, from the background. I experimented with various blend modes and or brush strokes to add more colour touches enhancing the image and especially the animals.
This submission, out of 5, was the choice of my liking. All comments/critiques are more than welcome.

Wow. This is the first time I have seen the oil paint filter really enhance an image. Great job in the background as it really sets the stage and the small and soft effect on the Rhinos adds real awareness and a more unique dimension of the subject. Also, the warm tones to the Rhinos add immensely to the impact. Just beautifully done.   Posted: 07/10/2024 22:31:39

While it looks slightly like tangled wood in the original shot, you found just the perfect brush effect to enhance the background without detracting from the main subjects. Both rhinos benefitted from the enhanced orangey red tone to liven things up. For a shot from a vehicle, this looks outstanding.   Posted: 07/19/2024 16:08:35

I agree with everyone else; simply WOW!
I love the textured quality that the oil paint processing choices gave to the rhinos and background. And, I can't believe that you saw this in the wild. Amazing!
Since this is a non-realistic presentation, I might suggest the addition of just a very tiny white catch light in the baby rhino's eye. With or without that, this is a fantastic image.

Gerhard, you really went after the texture in this image! In separating your rhinos from the background for a different texture, the outlines of the animals along their backs IMHO should have been softened in the transition between the rhino and the tree area. Besides that, a very fine result!   Posted: 07/21/2024 16:46:36

Gerhard, what a beautiful result you got here, the Rhino and its calf skin texture is wonderful, very well done, and the background compliments so well. The scene is impressive like taking from a prehistoric view. Everything compliments with each other.   Posted: 07/28/2024 18:39:07
