About the Image(s)
There is an island off the Maine and Canadian coast, where we have access to puffins!! These birds are fantastic and so fun to shoot. My original had four puffins on a rock, but I removed the top two birds and replaced them with a better posed puffin. I added a textured background and then painted the puffins and rock in Photoshop with various mixer brushes. At some point, I might revisit this to use a different background and to add more room to the bottom of the frame.

Your decision to go with three was excellent plus they are in a triangle shape and is very attractive to my eye. Your painting of feathers is again excellent and the use of the texture for water is perfect. The only suggestion I see is that there is a slight halo I can see with my naked eye. When I took it into PS and zoomed into 400, I used bushy goodness and went over the edges to remove this and I believe makes the edges blend in with the background a bit better. I worked from the inside out.

Nancy,
Which brush is the "bushy goodness", from PS?   Posted: 09/23/2023 22:13:11

You get the "brushy goodness" brush at your one year anniversary in Michelle's program.   Posted: 09/24/2023 08:35:58
Thanks Nancy, yes I now also see the halos. Great fix. I'll use that.   Posted: 09/24/2023 08:36:33

I've always been fascinated with this bird, beautiful one.
Very nicely paint, and great composition.
Which brushes do you use for the end of the feathers?

For the feathers, I used a fur brush. The fur brushes tend to have more distinct markings as compared to Michelle's "greasy blender" brush.   Posted: 09/24/2023 08:37:25
Your use of the brushes is my goal. Nicely done.   Posted: 09/24/2023 10:59:35

Both images are very attractive, Cindy. (How nice that you don't have to travel overseas to find some!) Your composite was expertly done and looks very natural. I enjoyed your explanation of brushes you chose for your image. Super job.   Posted: 09/26/2023 12:47:54

Cindy, I love your puffins and your paintings! well done!
Your comment about adding more space inspired me, so I added more canvas), hard to do given the border and the low res, but you should be able to do it much easier with the original)
I flipped it to add the the visual interest, since the diagonal leads the viewer out of the frame, but flipping it we now do in from the left, thru the diagonal and then thru the puffins.   Posted: 09/27/2023 01:12:21

Thanks Lisa, I will definitely resurrect this image with more canvas and then flip it. I do like this orientation better than what I had originally presented.   Posted: 09/27/2023 07:57:53
