A lone wolf (with his significant other at left) of the hot-rod crowd pauses in quiet admiration, his rebel shirt echoing the spirit of the machines around him. At a downtown car show, polished chrome, black-clad onlookers, and converging lines draw the eye into a circular rhythm, inviting viewers to linger in the charged stillness between horsepower, attitude, and obsession. Tech stuff: f/5.6, ISO 400, -1 exposure bias step, 31mm focal length, 4 aperture. I shot in Aperture Priority and Auto ISO.

Lone Wolf appreciating his chariot or his dream of a chariot? I like the framing, the action and the reactions of visitors. I also like the B&W and the crop effect, but I think the contrast and shadows show better in the original.

I struggled with the shadows, as I prefer the "dark side," and thought the engine details and the people's tats might be lost in them. I'll play with the shadows and blacks while maintaining the midtones. Thanks! Posted: 08/16/2026 20:17:27
Hi Trey. as usually a very nice shot in Mono which reduces the color noise. I like the gradation of the cars which gives emphasis and depth to the image. I would prefer to cut the girl on the left out, and keep the protagonist in the third, emphasizing the scene with the contrast in the attitude of the other man. Posted: 08/22/2026 16:00:26
Marevi, I thought of cutting the girl out. But she's obviously his girlfriend/spouse, and that, in my thinking, created a paradox in his shirt proclamation that he's a Lone Wolf. Also, in my eye, the 3 black-shirted people create a triangle that keeps the viewer focused on the man in the middle, as do the cars on the right. Posted: 08/22/2026 16:10:01
that is one thought, but as for me, the story is between man and cars, so the "Lone Wolf" goes to the lone rider and not to a single man. keeping in the opposite man declare another lone wolf. Posted: 08/23/2026 11:59:04
An interesting and busy image, seemingly taken late in the day as shown by the long shadows.
The interest is "Dangle's" hotrod, as both the fellow in the "lone wolf" T-shirt and the lady are both looking at it.

A great street scene which is well depicted in black and white. Also a learning curve for me in what to look for. Well done and I agree with the way in which you have brought out the detail showing the components of the engine. I prefer the lady in the scene as it shows people interested in the show.
