About the Image(s)

They came to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, for the No Kings protest dressed to blur the details with masks, costumes, anything to keep a name from sticking. Yet right there in the middle a sign insists on one word: Pride. That’s the frame’s tension: identity concealed, identity declared. In a moment built on obfuscation, the brightest thing in the picture is what refuses to hide. Tech stuff: f/11, 1/800 sec., ISO 720, 32mm focal length, pattern metering.

Trey, I feel that you have cropped your image too tightly. Without your preamble I would not have been aware where or why the image was taken.
I find the words on the poster to be a "word salad" and would pass it by as being inconsequential.
Well done for making sense of this scene!

This image is one of many that I have from the protest so it will have context when placed with the other images.   Posted: 04/13/2026 14:50:48

Hi, Trey. I would prefer not so tight cropping. it would be interesting to see the depth of the street and the setting the man is in. besides, there are very nice elements behind it to highlight, and they give the image a continuity, the before and after.   Posted: 04/13/2026 11:52:53

Marevia, I started with a wider crop, but those masks drew me into the juxtaposition. I felt that a wider crop wouldn't be as effective. On the street, I look for street signs that create juxtaposition and got another one under a left-turn-prohibited sign.   Posted: 04/14/2026 16:49:28

Hi Trey, I tend to agree with what has been said and have nothing more constructive comments and or suggestions.   Posted: 04/14/2026 08:06:26

Hi Trey, I somewhat agree with the comments posted. All said, the image and text are intriguing on their own and piqued my curiosity. Using different coloured pens, highlight each word, ask the viewer to focus on each word, and what they mean.
The masks hide identity, but pose the question of why these particular masks; is there a meaning attached?
I wonder if cropping the pair full-length and including their shadows would change the dynamics and image impact. Interesting work and story, Trey.   Posted: 04/17/2026 22:11:10
