About the Image(s)

Strolling along Main Street in Waupaca, Wisconsin, I was immediately drawn to the interplay of lines and the captivating repetition of frames within frames in this black-and-white street scene. These small alcoves, tucked away in countless downtowns, stand in striking contrast to the busy sidewalks and bustling streets they branch off from. Some alcoves are immaculate and inviting, while others are scattered with debris or littered with discarded shopper newspapers. The most compelling visual contrasts emerge depending on the time of day, especially when an alcove faces east or west and catches the bold, dramatic sunlight. Tech stuff: ISO 500, f/16, 1/320 sec., aperture priority, pattern metering, 35mm focal length.

I’ve added grain to this digital image. Does anyone use grain presets you developed in LRC? What is your feeling about NO grain in street photography?

An interesting image, Trey. I agree with you. I assume you were walking slowly and appreciating the settings as you crossed them. I like the duality (open and close) of the building entrance and the play of the light and reflections.

I do not use the grain presets in LRC. I think that grain in some settings and situations is a plus to enhance the mood. I did not know that there was a "NO" grain in street photography. I use it when needed and in other situations, i.e. night street photography is part of the course.   Posted: 12/18/2025 07:32:31

I agree with Cisco that this is an unique image and shows your experience in recognising such. Mono is the way to go and the contrasting effect is stunning.   Posted: 12/18/2025 18:40:22
