Watch Repair Man by Cisco Goncalves

November 2025 - Watch Repair Man

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at BlokM Mall, one of my favourite places since 1988. Everything is there, or it seems so. One day you see the watch repair man on wheels, and on another day you see a “coffeeshop on a ½ ton truck with benches around and stools to sit down. I happened to be sitting across the street when the gentleman pushing his watch repair on wheels lined himself to park. Once his head appeared, I pointed and took the image. The image was captured in colour, but I misplaced the original. Tech stuff: ISony 7rm3; Sony G-master 24-70mm; at f:8, 1/200; ISO 100

Cisco, you were in the right place at the right time to catch this image.
I would have loved to have seen the original colour image. These mobile shops are usually so colourful.
I don't think the image would lose anything if you cropped out the pump and pipe assembly on the right hand side. On the otherhand, the phone numbers at the top of the image might be related to it and so form part of the story. As a stranger, I can only wonder.
It is interesting and fascinating what passes by in a street when you stop and wait and look!

Thank you, Martin. You are correct, the street becomes more interesting and giving when we slow down. I used to belong to the guilty group that would pass by, searching in a hurry and forgetting to look. Night street photography helped me return to the "slowing down" mood. The cart was not that colourful, and I don't know where I put the colour version.   Posted: 11/18/2025 02:53:31

A great shot Cisco. I love it and it depicts exactly what one would define as "street photography". The head appearing from behind adds to the scene. Well done. The colour version could be of interest and to compare with the mono version.?   Posted: 11/11/2025 05:52:51

Thank you, Gerhard, for a great comment. There is no colour version; I don't know what I did with it.   Posted: 11/18/2025 02:36:02

I couldn't imagine watch repair on wheels, after seeing this, I wonder, why not, everything else has been sold on wheels. It is very well composed.   Posted: 11/12/2025 03:53:28

Thank you, Armen. You are right, one can see almost anything being sold on some wheels. In fact, in Indonesia, seamsters are sewing what is needed with a "Singer" and cobblers are repairing shoes on wheels.   Posted: 11/18/2025 02:40:48

a clever image, very interesting the watches and the numbers writen. it could have been croped to leave out the pot and the tree.   Posted: 11/12/2025 10:44:39

Thank you, Marevi. I considered cropping or blurring the background, but realized (that for me) it's part of the story.   Posted: 11/18/2025 02:43:09
