“The sands of time cannot be stopped. Years pass whether we will them or not... but we can remember. What has been lost may yet live in memories.” ??• Christopher Paolini, Eragon
I had this quotation in mind as I settled in front this shop front advertisement in the city shopping Mall and waited for someone of advancing years to enter my scene.
It was only a few minutes before I was rewarded when this lady passed by.
I like the colour palette; her white coat matches the background in the advertisement, her brown boots and bag match the sand in the hourglass and her black pants match the black printing.
Street photographers sometimes get lucky!

Thank you Angela. As I said in the preamble, sometimes you get lucky.

The essence of time is displayed in the juxtaposition. A walk-by as time passed. The amount of sand left seems to be in sync with the subject's posture and age.
Good image, well done.   Posted: 07/08/2025 13:51:15

I always like photos of meaning something. And this is a photo that can say a lot. From advertising Time to Life itself. I agree that sometimes photographers are lucky. But only when they are there to photograph not only with their body but also with their mind to observe the "lucky" moment.   Posted: 07/09/2025 17:59:42

What's not to like about this image ? It is a perfectly timed image captured with the correct camera settings ensuring an excellent exposure and focus of an appropriate subject matter. Thanks for sharing Martin. Luck is one thing but " the harder you try, the luckier you get".   Posted: 07/13/2025 08:13:46

A well-kept elderly lady walking past a half-run hourglass - what a great concept and a lovely image. I also admire the sharpness of the photo - from the grains of sand to the strands of the lady's hair.   Posted: 07/18/2025 14:48:43

Martin, a nice example of fishing. The only thing that could improve the shot would be to have a young woman walking in the opposite direction. It is a very well-composed image, and I like how the brown tones tie the image together. The vertical rectangular walkway contrasts nicely with the circular and oval shapes and the triangles of the sands of time. Wonderful circular eye movement within the image. Kudos!   Posted: 07/18/2025 16:29:49
