St. Panteleimon Church, Rhodes Old Town, Greece by Tom Lee

March 2025 - St. Panteleimon Church, Rhodes Old Town, Greece

About the Image(s)

Description: This image was captured in Old Town Rhodes during a trip to Rhodes, Greece. I was drawn to the texture of the church, and the person sitting outside added a pleasant touch to the image ??” even though he appeared slightly blurry due to his sudden movement.

The stuff ??“ Camera: Lumix G9 Mk2 with Leica 12-60 mm lens. Exposure: 1/60 sec, f/5.6, ISO 200, Aperture priority. Metering: Spot. Exposure Bias: 0 EV. Flash: Didn't fire.

Post Processing: The image was first opened in Lightroom for basic tonal adjustments using the Basic panel. It was then sent to Photoshop for multiple enhancements, with a single TIFF file output returned to Lightroom. In Photoshop, the first step was noise reduction using Topaz Photo AI, even though the image had minimal noise. Next, Luminar Neo was used to enhance the overall image. Upon completion, the image was returned to Lightroom for final adjustments, including burning and dodging with local masks.

A very interesting church. I assume the inside of the church is as attractive. Great colours.   Posted: 03/16/2025 10:33:57

Tom, a beautiful small church, and I can see why you photographed it. The curb at the left provides a nice leading line to the potted plants and then to the archway, which comes down on the other side and leads the eye to the seated person. Perhaps you cropped too close to the person, and if the original allows, I would add more breathing room to the left side. Some street photographers won't touch up their images, but I have always believed that the photographer is the storyteller, and it's okay to clean up distractions. In this case, I would clone out the tree branches at the top right. This would allow for a better refinement of the sky - whether you'd want to go towards high-key white or bring out the blue of the sky. You did a wonderful job in capturing the texture of the stone facing of the church, which contrasts nicely with the adobe walls bookending it.   Posted: 03/16/2025 12:07:21

I also like on what Marevi is saying. One looks at an image and the story telling aspect is left to one's imagination - thanks Marevi   Posted: 03/23/2025 09:15:59
