A busy image but I thought I would submit it. It might be completely my imagination but it seemed to me that converting it to BW took it out of the present and back into the 1920’s, maybe. I could almost image Gatsby and Daisy wandering in at some point. And I liked the soft natural light. Anyway, shot a number of years ago with my very old Nikon D60. 1/25 sec f/14 ISO 400. Minimal post-processing…increased shadows and texture in both the original and the BW.

You have a great tonal range in your monochrome version. Very strong technical skills. I also like the color original. This is a wonderful architectural shot which has good focus and details. I like the angle from which you took this shot too. My only small suggestion might be to lighten the column to the right slightly. Posted: 08/09/2026 21:40:52

Hello Lorna. You have a nice B&W conversion; did you manipulated the reds, and greens? Great DoF.
Did you also take a vertical shot? I think a vertical with the two closest pillars and the arch above as a frame and the remote corner centered would make a great composition.

Thanks, Charles. No, I didn't alter any of the colour sliders in the conversion (something I have often done in the past, but not here). And no, I didn't take a vertical shot - a good reminder to explore all possible angles when on a shoot. My focal length was 18 mm. Posted: 08/14/2026 22:18:03
This is a typical courtyard found in many areas of Spain. I find it challenging to capture these scenes. Lorna, You have produced a lovely composition here by taking a diagonal perspective which captures the essentials of this architecture. I agree with Cindy on lightening the foreground column.
