About the Image(s)
The camera settings are ISO 400, shutter speed 1/500, and f/10. I used my Pentax camera on auto and used Irfanview software to convert to mono. I am a fan of photographing buildings and when I was in Madison, I made a point to photograph the Capital building. I like the mono version because the blue sky is not a distraction and I think the building stands out more. I did no editing of the picture except create the mono version.

You have amazing details and you handled the white so well. It is an interesting and nice composition, although I would have liked to have seen a little more of the stairs leading up to the door. I also like the color version - what a great sky. In your monochrome version, I would suggest making the sky darker and removing the dust sensor spot.   Posted: 04/03/2026 14:01:39
Paul, I love these majestic architectural subjects. I think I prefer the monochrome version of this - the brightness of the sunlight tends to highlight the detail and the tonal variation in the building rather than making the bright blue of the sky a "distraction", as you said. I do agree with Cindy's suggestions about 1) including more of the foreground stairway as a leading line and 2) darkening the sky a little for increased drama, perhaps. Nice job!   Posted: 04/04/2026 23:20:57
I like this image,Paul, you've shown the entire facade with great clarity and definition. I enjoy the symmetrical composition and I think your image captures the power and authority of the institution it houses.,Well done !!!   Posted: 04/09/2026 18:56:17
Paul, hello, I also love architecture, and architectural photography. What focal length (35mm equivalent) did you use? Capturing a vertical architectural subject while controlling keystoning can be challenging; you've done quit well here.
There does appear to be a dust spot to the right of the base of the dome. I made a version where I increased the contrast, darkened the sky, and darkened the shadows for dramatic effect.   Posted: 04/10/2026 00:05:04
