An interesting and well presented portrait. Wonderful details of this gentleman and a great expression. I like both versions, but I think monochrome was the way to go here. The exposure is very good. I would suggest cropping up some from the bottom to remove some of the out of focus music stand and to clone the few bright white spots. I also opened the shadows so we could see the details of the piano lid.   Posted: 04/04/2026 20:14:59

Charles, a great capture! I definitely prefer the BW conversion and crop - I find the variety of colours and the bright spots distract from the bassist. The monochrome allows all the aspects of the image - the intrument, the musician's skin tones, his jacket, the piano lid - to harmonise (no pun intended). I think the lighting brings out a lot of great detail and texture, but I agree with Cindy about the out-of-focus music stand in the foreground and like her crop suggestion. I don't, however, find the darkness of the piano lid a problem - to me, it provides a suitable backdrop for the main subject...personal taste, eh?   Posted: 04/04/2026 23:51:37

This is a lovely image, capturing a joyful moment in this performance. I much prefer the mono version as the essence of the image is the musician, his concentration and his expression which are all present in the mono…. Really sharp image. I find the lighting to the left is quite distracting and recognising that the lighting surely made it a challenging shot. You might consider a tighter crop on the left and also of the out of focus foreground elements…. Still giving you a square crop. .. well done   Posted: 04/06/2026 13:08:46
