About the Image(s)

This image was shot with my Nikon D850, 24 to 70 mm lens 2.8. Focal length was 24mm. I use 1/200 sec, F/7.1 with an iso of 220. I was just out shooting photos with my kids and I was trying different angles on this bridge. I shot some with the rider and without the rider and thought the bicyclists look best. Welcome comments as to whether this works or something even worth working on, even if ideas on how to reshooting it.

Hello James, it looks like it was a great day for high contrast B&W photography. The angle you were shooting from made composition challenging; what do you think of this crop: I emphasized the bridge's structure, and the cyclist and removed elements like the triangle of foliage at the bottom?   Posted: 07/13/2025 19:29:35

Thanks for pointing this different crop. Reminds me of a tv from my past.   Posted: 07/24/2025 15:54:28

James, excellent choice of monochrome for this image. I agree with Charles' comment about the foliage at the bottom of the frame but find the tilt of his version a bit awkward vis-a vis the cyclist's trajectory. I have done a version below that crops out only the foliage. Great positioning of the cyclist in the frame and with his face showing just between the verticals of the bridge. I find the very white clouds a bit distracting - I tried cloning them out but...very challenging. You might try taking the brightness down slightly with a mask (?)   Posted: 07/15/2025 04:09:08

Well captured, James....I agree with Lorna's comments. However, I think the clouds are less of a distraction in the colour version.   Posted: 07/23/2025 12:12:21

You achieved nice focus and clarity. An interesting shot that, for me, is much better in monochrome. I like Lorna's crop.   Posted: 07/25/2025 23:12:50
