About the Image(s)

This was taken in Holland on a foggy day, through the front windshield of our car on our way to Abcoude. This is actually the original image, not converted to BW, but I thought I would submit it as is because the tones were so desaturated by the fog. Nikon D7000, f/8, 1/250 sec, ISO 1600.

I've tried in vain on many occasions to get an effect from the fog similar to what you have captured. Great work! The fog + the windshield produced an oneiric, soft focus, monochrome image; what, if anything did you apply in post?   Posted: 03/09/2025 15:31:16

Thanks, Charles. TBH, I actually did very little post-processing on this. I had 2 versions in my folder - this one was slightly, but not much, more contrast-y than the other. I think the slight murkiness of the car windshield added another layer, if you will, to the fogginess. And, as I confessed, this is actually a colour image, but I felt the fog desaturated it so completely that it appears monochrome. The Netherlands does a lot of tree-planting along country lanes like this (which they selectively harvest once they reach a certain maturity) and there is often morning fog, particularly in the winter/Spring. I think I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.   Posted: 03/20/2025 00:55:57

Wow! Love this and the fog/mist adds a dramatic effect. Love the exposure and vanishing point. Well done.   Posted: 03/14/2025 16:21:16

Hello Lorna,
This is a great image. You got it naturally. The slightly famous photographer, Lynn Geesaman, achieves similar effects with her printing technique. You might google her. I can't upload a sample copy of her work right now, as our DD website is having problems.   Posted: 03/25/2025 20:04:12

Great shot Lorna....looks along like some of the tree lines in France....what lens were you using ?   Posted: 03/28/2025 14:28:47

Hi Ger,
I honestly can't remember what lens I was using at the time and my metadata seems to have disappeared. I think it was probably a Nikon 18 - 120mm zoom.   Posted: 03/30/2025 03:49:37

I like fog photos. You are led to the end of the road wondering what is out there. Momo works better for this type of image. I think the things you can see between the trucks of the trees adds balance .   Posted: 03/29/2025 13:26:51
