Penitentiary Hall by Cindy Lynch

January 2025 - Penitentiary Hall

About the Image(s)

Taken at the old penitentiary in Jefferson City, MO. I liked the gloomy feeling I got from this dark hall where the only light was from the outside window. I purposely kept it dark. Settings: f/5.6, 1/8 sec., ISO 400, 24 mm focal length, using a tripod and no flash.

Cindy, such beautiful textures and angles in this image. I think the darkness really enhances the mood, as does the light coming in from the windows on the side. I also like the reflections on the half ceiling on the left. If these walls could talk, eh?   Posted: 01/14/2025 03:51:32

Cindy, Your Image certainly communicates that this place is a grim and bleak environment.....definitely a place of punishment and of another era. Probably a lot cleaner in your shot than it was when in its heyday. Well captured and processed.   Posted: 01/17/2025 16:54:44

I love shooting old penitentiaries. I love the texture and the feel. I am thinking I like a lower angle, yet you might lose the beautiful floor. A really good job getting detail in the whole image. Great job.   Posted: 01/25/2025 22:40:20

Very evocative! Depth of Field, texture, and one point perspective, gives the sense of confinement, and restriction even though the overall space is vast. Nice work!   Posted: 01/26/2025 22:56:01
