About the Image(s)

I took this shot with my iPhone on a rather foggy day. I thought the colours in the “original” original were quite washed out so it might be good in monochrome. As you can see, I severely cropped the final BW image because when I converted the original, the area on the left of the frame came out very dark and I found it distracting. I am not happy with the extreme crop in terms of sharpness and tonal variation (I prefer the composition of the first BW conversion, on the right) but wanted to get your thoughts. converted to monochrome in PS with some levels adjustments.

The reflection of the bridge in the water creates a beautiful symmetrical effect, I like your crop. This is simple but tells a story. I like this better than your other choice. Your other choice may work better if reversed withe bridge leading you into photo.   Posted: 12/14/2024 16:40:12

Thanks, James. I like your flip (it seems to often be an issue for me as a lefty, or whatever). I, too, prefer the panorama and the dark area in your version also seems less obtrusive.   Posted: 12/15/2024 00:41:40

Great composition and contrast. I like the simplicity of this photo. While I like the tree and its refletion in the original shot, it wouldn't make the compositon efective with too much space. You have done a nice job.   Posted: 12/19/2024 15:43:50
