About the Image(s)
I took this shot a number of years ago at Cowichan Bay marina just north of where I live on Vancouver Island (85 mm focal length, 1/40 sec at f/6.3, ISO 200). I was drawn to the bright blues and reds of the rope but thought I would try it in BW just to see. The conversion was done in LR - increased texture, clarity and slight sharpening, and darkened blues, reds and oranges using the BW Mix sliders. I also rotated the original and cropped the bottom slightly so that the end of the rope would draw our eye into the frame from the left instead of leading us out of it at the top. I would welcome your thoughts.

Good work!. Rotating the image and cropping to portrait mode really does the trice here. Very creative to make it Black and White as the blue color really does nothing for the image. BW really adds to the mysstery of the rope. Sharpness is spot on.

Such wonderful curved lines and sharpness. The details are wonderful. I think this makes an excellent close-up and monochrome was the way to go here. Nice job!   Posted: 11/07/2024 15:46:56

I agree with what is already said. As I look at this image I wish there was another row or 2 of rope on the right and top. Nice job from original to b&w.   Posted: 11/07/2024 17:57:02

Wow - thanks everyone! You are very generous with your comments. Yes, James, I can see what you mean about the rows of rope and agree.   Posted: 11/11/2024 01:11:27

Lorna,
I love the curves and the texture.....I prefer the colour version because the contrast between the rope and the background is stronger.   Posted: 11/11/2024 19:39:30

I also prefer this image as a vertical. Though grey midtones predominate, the texture of the rope gives good separation from the wood surface. Very nice image.   Posted: 11/19/2024 00:34:18
