American Alligator by Morrie Carter

April 2026 - American Alligator

About the Image(s)

his is a photo of a wild American Alligator. It was taken April 2 at the Stick Marsh in Florida. The camera settings are ISO 800, then lens was a 200-600 zoom taken at 485 mm, f6.3. and a shutter of 1/2000. The Stick Marsh is an interesting area with lots of bird and animal life. We counted 21 alligators when we were there and have no idea how many we drove by.

The photo is sharp throughout causing very little visual separation between the alligator and the shrubbery. The alligator does not stand out. I would suggest cropping in tighter to highlight the alligator.   Posted: 04/10/2026 03:28:32

Very good point and I was wondering about the background and crop. Because it was so close to the bank and foliage the lens I was using was wide open but the distance did not have the depth seperation. I would imagine in LR I could blur the background to give it more seperation. In looking a the photo now a little more contrast might help as well.   Posted: 04/13/2026 15:31:10

I'm impressed you got a gator in the wild.Only seen one in a zoo.Suggest cropping in more, and reduce the soft focus on the water.   Posted: 04/13/2026 17:05:46
