About the Image(s)

This photo was taken on September 9th at Goblin State Park in Utah. I was hoping to get a Milky Way photo but the clouds were moving in with an electrical storm in the distance. I set the camera up on an intervalometer for a 15 second exposure hoping to catch a lightning bolt. I was using a 16 mm lens at f2.8. With the storm in the distance and the stars and some of the Milky Way, it made for an interesting photo IMO. I probably should have removed the satellites in the image.

The lightning and Milky Way are separated by quite a large distance in the photo. The lightning is a very strong subject. Your eye is immediately drawn to it. To be honest I really did not see the MW until I read the description. I do not think the MW is adding to the photo and suggest cropping it out.

I really like the photo of the lightning!   Posted: 12/16/2025 17:23:31
