About the Image(s)
EQUIPMENT & EXIF
Canon R5 / RF 100mm F/2.8L Macro IS USM & 6 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100, 100 mm (shot from a tripod)
IMAGE DESCRIPTION & INTENDED EFFECT
This is my son's Sundew plant, "Hopper". I'd seen him "eat" very small bugs before, but nothing as large as this housefly and I was amazed. My intent for capturing this image was to try and share details of both the fly and the plant. I thought the highkey composition style would lend itself well to keeping the viewer's focus on the subject.
POST PROCESSING STEPS
I did next to nothing in post on this image - bumped shadows and blacks ever so slightly, dropped whites just a hair, added a small amount of clarity and dehave, and gave it a very subtle vignette.

What a great concept - plant eats bug instead of the other way around. I think that the high key presentation works quite well. What's confusing is understanding what has been captured by the plant. I can't tell that is is a fly. Maybe work the shot from different angles?   Posted: 07/18/2025 21:14:11
What a good point, I hadn't even considered it, having seen it and taken the shot of course (it was a fly BTW).
Thanks for the reminder for next time!
