About the Image(s)
Description: This image was taken past sunset and turned out to be quite dull to my liking. However, I envisioned that the subject might work well in high key. It is very obvious that the image was post-processed in Adobe Photoshop.
Shot with Nikon Z6II and 24-120mm.
What are your thoughts on this image please?
As a side note, I am opting to downsize for a more portable camera with the launch of OM3 around the corner? Any feedback given would be much appreciated on this topic (I presume that such discussions are allowed to take place).

This is a lovely minimalist image, proving that sometimes, less is more. You especially held the distinction between the sea and the horizon as well I think I recognize the breakwater. Is it one of the pair at the entrance to the Grand Harbor at Valetta?   Posted: 02/10/2025 15:25:51

Hi Craig. Thank you for the positive feedback.
This is one of my first attempts to minimalism so it is
quite experimental. Your memory serves you well as you
have rightly mentioned the breakwater is situated at the Grand
Harbour :)   Posted: 02/13/2025 21:36:30

Hi Mark - welcome!
The first thing my eye keyed into on this was what Craig pointed out, and that's keeping that separation between the top of the lighthouse and the horizon - nicely done.
As to the processing, I think it's a very effective minimalist image. All the negative space works great against this wonderful leading line and particularly like how closely you brought it to the edge of the image.
If I was going to offer one thing to consider it would be to adjust the contrast between the pier and lighthouse and the background. It's so white and bright, I can't help but thinking of fog, and with the pier and lighthouse being so dark and rich, it indicates otherwise, creating a dissonance.
As to your gear question, I've never heard either way if that's OK or not, but it sure seems like a reasonable question to me ? I shoot the Canon R5 w/"L" glass, so can absolutely appreciate wanting to downsize, I don't have any experience w/the OM3 though - good luck!   Posted: 02/17/2025 14:56:19

Mark. Bravo for seeing this as minimalist and high key. I would have passed right by it! Several suggestions come to mind. Crop it down from the top so that the sea and sky are the same dimension. Since you have so little color, convert the image to b&w.   Posted: 02/17/2025 16:26:23
The minimalist approach definitely works! David suggested that the photo be cropped down from the top. This would create a panorama view that if you have the right location to display this photo would work very well.   Posted: 02/18/2025 17:15:37
