New River Gorge Bridge by Barbara Gore

January 2025 - New River Gorge Bridge

About the Image(s)

The image of the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia was captured in the early morning, a time when fog often rises from the river. My initial plan was to photograph the moonset, but the weather presented fog and overcast skies instead. I processed the image using Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro and added a stroke in PS.

This is a wonderfully strong photo. I would experiment by slightly darkening some of the deep shadows and /or increasing the structure just a bit   Posted: 01/08/2025 22:21:36

Hi Barbara, and welcome to the group! I think that the arch and the diagonal of the bridge against, and disappearing into, the fog make a handsome image. I like the contrast between the softer elements of Nature and the precise sharp man-made structures.   Posted: 01/10/2025 14:27:39

Hi Barbara,
Let me start out by also welcoming you to the group and you have started out with a bang -what a wonderful photo! My only suggestion would be to possibly increase the contrast of the lower section of the bridge, but otherwise, I have nothing to add to improve this wonderful photo.

I'm curious as to where you were standing when you took the shot?

Hi Barbara and welcome to the group. You've certainly captured an impactful scene with this shot. From my perspective, you've composed this shot really well. You've got foreground interest and a strong diagonal line supported by a pleasing arch shape. The line of the bridge takes my eye further into the image, highlighting the depth of this shot and adding to the impact. The fog adds mystery to the image, which builds a storytelling element. My only suggestion would be to consider darkening a very small white area/object just behind the left-hand side of the arch. Nice capture!

Good evening Barbara,

This is a great image of the trestle in the mist. I have, personally, always like images with mist as they have an air of real mystery in my mind, and this image fits that perfectly for me. In fact the myst at the left end of the trestle adds a real sense of mystery as to what is there.

I am impressed with the level of detail in both the trestle and the foliage in the foreground.

To my eye this would make a good image for hanging on a wall. Thank you for sharing it with us Barbara,   Posted: 01/19/2025 23:13:31
