About the Image(s)

This wreck was taken from a passing train on a local heritage railway. Many of the steam engines on our heritage railways (of which there are many) ended their working life in scrap yards and were rescued by enthusiasts. I suspect that this one will be restored at some stage but it will take a lot of money and years to achieve it. The shot was taken against the light but I managed to get some details from the RAW file and doing further adjustments to the highlights and shadows in Photoshop. Taken at 1/400 sec, f5.6, ISO 200.

What a nice grunge subject with lots of rusty character. You did well in recovering the details from the original image. It's too bad you were unable to get out and get close-up shots of the rusty locomotive.   Posted: 09/04/2023 18:39:21

A great subject. While the straight-on shot is able to give us a good look at the engine, I hope you were also able to get some other angles, too. Your post-processing brought out some of the details and rust.   Posted: 09/09/2023 10:32:10

I wasn't able to get any good angled shots. although the train that I was on moved slowly, it was past in an instant and this was the best one I got.   Posted: 09/16/2023 02:42:48

Lucky you, that from the over exposed original to extract some details of the sky and the train. I'd rather under than over, cause it just hard to pull details out from over. Yes, you did well with that.

Subject is good, just not as impactful from a different view point of the train.   Posted: 09/15/2023 21:23:25

I would suggest moving closer to the engine. I think a lot of interesting detail is lost in this image. I would have used monochrome. Were you moving when you took this photograph with no opportunity to "work the subject"?   Posted: 09/15/2023 21:49:41

Amazing detail on the train engine. You were able to make such a good photograph from a moving train. Great job. I love the grunge of the old train. Good editing, too.   Posted: 09/28/2023 19:19:22

I like the image of an old rusted locomotive. I am thinking of a HDR image with more contrast and saturation of the body of the locomotive.   Posted: 09/30/2023 07:03:45
