About the Image(s)

My picture is from a recent outback trip my family did to Karumba in The Gulf of Australia. The place is famous for its Barramundi fishing, Crocodiles and Brolgas. The sunset there where amazing and I got so many good shot from here and the trip. This picuture is something I would like to get blow up onto canvas but I am just not sure about the colours so would love some feed back. I have made a few lighting and colour adjustment in Lightroom. 35mm, 1/3200, f6.3, ISO 100

Welcome to the group Beck. I like the more saturated colours of blue and yellow, it is a combination of colours that appeals to me and you have done it well. I might try to tone down the sun and the reflection on the water, particularly the sun on the statue of the bird on the right to add more detail around its neck. I think I would crop a little off the top of the image too. It is a simple and attractive scene and I hope it converts well on to canvas.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:47:20

Thank you for your feedback. I'm so excited to be here. Yes agree. I will work on reducing the highlights of the sun without over saturating the colours. I will work out what size canvas I want and look at the cropping too.   Posted: 10/01/2026 23:44:18

Welcome, Beck! You have a strong image here...simple, yet powerful. I like the two, silhouetted bird statues with the third silhouetted bird in flight. The bird statue on the right seems to be looking up at the bird in flight. If I were to make any suggestions, I, too, would recommend cropping a bit off the top. Also, you might try lightening the black base on which the statues are standing. Although the blacks might be crushed, bringing back some detail would separate the image from the black background. Or, you might try adding a white thin border (i.e., stroke) around the entire image.   Posted: 10/01/2026 19:05:55

Thank you so much for the feedback I'm very excited to be here. I will have a play with the highlights and cropping and look at the blacks to see what effect it creates. Thank you   Posted: 10/01/2026 23:48:47

Welcome, Beck. You have submitted a great photo which your post processing has enhanced. The sky is lovely. I do agree that cropping down some from the top may give you a stronger composition. Your timing was perfect to catch the bird in flight. It adds so much interest to your image. Everything is sharp and well focused and your horizon line is straight. Well done! I look forward to seeing more of your work in the months ahead.   Posted: 10/03/2026 13:55:08

Thank you. I'm so looking forward to being in the group. I think the timing of the bird was more luck then anything. ????   Posted: 10/08/2026 08:40:02

Hi Beck. Welcome! it's very nice that you captured the bird in flight, it gives more depth to the pic. I like the colors warmth of the colors but maybe you could soften the sun and its reflection a little. Beautiful pic.   Posted: 10/07/2026 13:43:29

Thank you. I have been playing with the highlights of the sun and it has been more of a challenge then I thought but am learning in the process. I'm enjoying looking at everyone else's work.   Posted: 10/08/2026 08:42:28

Hello, Beck. Good to have you with us. I am kind of new, as well...less than a year.
I really like your image; you did a great job with a rather difficult lighting effect. And the timing of getting the real bird in flight is excellent.

I'm on board with the others, in that reducing the brightness (and especially the line of flare that crossed the larger bird) is desirable. But, it might not be easy to do in Lightroom, especially if the sun area is completely blown out in the histogram. But, you might be able to use some layers and masks in Photoshop to bring it down some. As far as the color, and the cropping, I would first decide WHERE you want to hang the canvas. That should significantly inform the way you edit the color and the shape. Assuming this will be a large piece when printed, you need to consider the other colors near where it will hang, and what wall space is to be used. You do have a lot of of empty space at the top; but be sure to consider where it will hang before deciding on how it really needs to be cropped, and how to tweak the sky colors.   Posted: 10/07/2026 23:40:00

Great thank you. Yes I have been struggling in LR to adjust the highlight correctly, I'm yet to have a go in PS but that will be my next step. Good advise on looking at where I want to hang it. As I'm still newish yo photography I have not printed one of my own photos in a large size yet so I will definitely look more closely to the hanging area.   Posted: 10/08/2026 08:47:45
