About the Image(s)

I took this picture of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles a few years ago but just couldn't find a good way to post-process the image. With all the latest advances in Photoshop and Lightroom for removing objects, I found it quite easy to remove some distracting objects and create an image so ethereal and other-worldly. The most interesting thing about this image is that I forgot I took it with my old iPhone 11 Pro using the panning mode!

I am on a learning curve to try to produce images like this. I really like what you have done. Modern buildings lend themselves to this type of presentation with their clear flowing lines. My only suggestion would be to darken the background in the bottom corners slightly, particularly on the right side to show the lines of the building more clearly. Good job.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:30:09

Thank you, Robert. I like your suggestion. Will do. I, too, am a fan of Joel Tjintjelaar's and Julia Anna Gospodarou's work. Usually, they would tend to relight a building using dodging and burning to create smooth gradients of highlights and shadows. For the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the stainless steel walls created their own smooth gradients of highlights and shadows.   Posted: 10/01/2026 15:59:11

David, this is a wonderful image in both color and black and white. You have cropped in perfectly in your monochrome photo. For me, the monochrome emphasises the lovely sweeping curves. Your tonal range is great. This is a winner! So well processed and seen.   Posted: 10/03/2026 13:50:02

Thank you, Cindy. I was surprised what the iPhone can do. But I won't give up my real cameras...yet!   Posted: 10/03/2026 16:14:28

YET, David. That is the key word. If I were Canon, Nikon, et al, I would be quaking in my boots. So far, physics still keeps them in the game, especially where optic effects (compression, bokeh) give effects that the tiny lenses and the current computational effects don't yet replicate very well. But, it may not be long.
As your photo shows, detail, lighting and quality are already top notch. Great vision and excellent crop.   Posted: 10/07/2026 22:06:11
