About the Image(s)

Last December I joined an online photography group that issues a weekly challenge to the members. I took this photo on a week entitled, “Unexplored.” The idea was visit a place often passed but never explored. I had passed the recent addition of the sky bridge over 126 at the University of Oregon for some months, meaning to go in. Moments after arriving and while still trying to decide what to do about the harsh afternoon sunlight, I turned around, saw the student, fired from the hip. In post I decided to exaggerate the brightness rather than try and dial it back, keeping the background from distracting, obliterating many distracting details.

A very interesting and creative shot done in a high key fashion. I like the perspective of this shot and the fact that your subject has a red jacket draws my eye right to it. You have a strong off-center composition, as well. Welcome to the group. I am looking forward to seeing more of your photos.   Posted: 04/04/2026 19:47:18

I really like this image and how you gave it a high-key look! In fact, I might even darken the subject a bit to give the subject more contrast with the white background. I would also clone out that square box that is cut off on the edge of the upper middle of the image; and the diagonal piece as well. Beautiful! And, welcome to the group.   Posted: 04/04/2026 20:42:04

I think you made the right choice to go with the high key. It is one of my favorite looks, and I don't use it enough! It fits perfectly with the story of this image in my mind...the ELEVATION (sky bridge), the bright light, the mysterious background. Even the support cables.

Knowing the story of WHERE the bridge is adds even more of a connection in my mind, with the brilliant light of knowledge behind the student. Very well composed, photographed, and edited.   Posted: 04/05/2026 02:41:46
