About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at a "Spot of Tea" themed flower show in the Spring of 2025. As the Dahlia is my favorite flower, I took shots of this one. I love photos of flowers in black & white because it gives the flower more depth. This photo was taken in color with a Nikkor MC 105mm, f2.8, Aperture 4, Exposure 250, ISO,100, and focal length 105. It was post-processed in Adobe Lightroom. The color was changed to Grey Gamma 1.8.

Welcome to the group Crystal. I like your simple image and the way you have isolated it from the background. You have brought out the detail in the petals very well and added the water droplets (either by good fortune or design) to add another dimension to the picture. The test is "would I have it on my wall?" and the answer is yes. It would be good to see the original to show the extent of the post processing that you have done.   Posted: 12/03/2025 16:58:44

I, too, wish to welcome you to our group. Dahlias are one of my favorite flowers as well because of their diverse colors, shapes and sizes. You captured this dahlia nicely with the flower in good focus, and your post-processing separated it from the background. The B&W treatment works well, too. My only suggestion would be to brighten the overall image. I took the liberty to play with your image. I hope you don't mind.   Posted: 12/03/2025 19:05:38

Welcome, Crystal. What a lovely Dahlia. I like the center composition and you have captured the details perfectly. I agree with David that it needs to be brighter. You have nice black in your tonal range, but the rest is mid-toned. Having the brighter tones in David's edit really made the flower "pop". Otherwise, technically well done and the water drops are a plus.   Posted: 12/05/2025 03:07:34
