About the Image(s)

I shot my neighbor's maple tree from my backyard. This year, his trees had spectacular red and yellow colors. I used Lightroom to crop the image, to adjust the highlights in the background areas, and to brighten the leaves in the foreground. I alsovused Nik Collection's, "Film Efex Modern (Brand)," filter in Color Efex to fine tune the colors. I shot the image with a vintage 1974 55mm f/3.5 Micro Nikkor lens adapted to a full-frame, mirrorless Nikon Zf camera. Exposure was 1/200 sec @ f/5.6 and ISO 1600.

There is a good depth to this image with the foreground leaves slightly out of focus and also the trees/shrubs in the background. You have enhanced the colours very well and showed the autumn colours at their best and probably to the extent that the colours are more like those that you saw with the naked eye. Often the brightness of light shining through the leaves can be a distraction but you have toned them down very nicely and they provide a good contrast of colours.   Posted: 12/03/2025 16:52:03

You are correct, Robert. When I saw the vibrant colors of the leaves, I knew I had to go out and shoot them. But, when I saw what the camera captured, I was at first a little disappointed. Then, the magic of post processing gave me what I originally saw.   Posted: 12/03/2025 18:52:50

I love the fall so this is very appealing for me. It is a lovely display of autumn beauty. Congrats for seeing the artist merit and capturing it. The unfocused leaves in the upper right corner bother me some and I don't think you need all that space. I cropped them out, added a little more saturation and a very slight vignette.   Posted: 12/05/2025 03:03:46
