This image was taken from a boat on the canals in Amsterdam. It is the Nemo Science Museum designed by an Italian architect called Renzo Piano. His design replicates the road tunnel under the canal but to the architect’s annoyance, most people identify it as a ship. The picture was taken in the evening and I was attracted by the colours and its dominance over the canal. The shot had to be taken quickly as the boat moved and as a result, a lot of work was done in Photoshop. Image was taken at 1/60 sec, f8, ISO400.

You certainly had wonderful lighting for this shot. The museum does look like an old, battered ship, and its colors work well with the water and sky. I like the way you brought out the wispy clouds and subtle colors in the sky. You were also wise to clone out the crane and poles. A very pleasing image! Posted: 07/06/2025 23:09:05
Thanks David. I also did a black and white conversion which brought out a rather dramatic sky and which I also like. I thought about trying to remove the bridge but decided that you can't move too far away from reality and it would probably have been rather a messy result and the bridge is an integral part of the building after all. You did a great job with your post-processing. I agree with everything David said. Wonderful sky colors that go so well with the colors of the museum which has nice details and focus. My only suggestion is to finish cloning out the wires at the top. Posted: 07/08/2025 14:50:59
Thanks for your suggestion Cindy. I fixed up the wires and when I printed it for a competition entry I found some other distractions which were not obvious on the Group 45 submission, so thanks again. Posted: 07/22/2025 16:27:30
