Flash on Hummingbird by Charlie Yang

February 2025 - Flash on Hummingbird

About the Image(s)

This month, I'd like to submit something new to me.
As I visiting friends and relatives in LA, happened to run into "LA wild fire", a lot of highway traffic were blocked, and parks closed, I have resort to tryout flash photography, This is one of the hundreds, after trying out different setting, location changes. Just try to learn about remote flash trigger, and lighting.
Oh, by the way, hummingbirds show up in the backyard, I just add a feeder to lure them down to my photo setting, it takes a few days, but it worked...:)

Camera used: Z8, Z 100-400mm lens, f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/1600, on tripod, SB5000 flash remote mount, Gordox Radio frequency Trigger/Receiver,

Post process: LR light adjustment, cropped, minor adjustment in Topaz photo AI.

It's fun to try and learn for me, least help me live through some boring days.

This image is quite creative! Normally, I'm not a fan of hummingbird images with a feeder included, but, in this case, the feeder serves as a unique frame for the bird in flight. You caught the bird in the perfect spot. Excellent!   Posted: 02/03/2025 00:41:54

Great timing of your shot. This makes a lovely composition. The hummingbird appears to be looking right at you and you have a nice catchlight in his eye. The dark, blurred background helps the focus stay on your subject and composition.   Posted: 02/05/2025 15:42:27

A good opportunistic shot. Everything worked for you and you captured the moment. I like the framing and the shutter speed just managed to catch a little bit of movement in the bird's wings. Very enjoyable image.   Posted: 02/07/2025 16:33:31
