About the Image(s)
I took this image at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia this morning (end of October 2024). A perfect autumn day with many trees displaying spectacular colors this year.
I saw this scene with a beautifully backlit tree and waited for about 1/2 hour before the "right" person walked into it. I particularly like the fact that the man's orange jacket matched the bright orange leaves. Shot with a crop-sensor camera and 55-200mm zoom lens at 128mm (192mm equivalent 35mm focal length). I leveled the image and made minor tonal adjustments in Lightroom.

A really good and opportunistic piece of street photography. The crop makes the image much stronger by getting rid of the grass at the front and concentrating on the man and it emphasizes the match between the leaves and his jacket. The lighting works too because the wall in the background is muted and does not detract from the main scene. The toning down of the bright section of the foreground also works well. A winner.   Posted: 11/03/2024 10:33:06

Thank you, Robert. This was one of those times where I first saw two children playing under the tree. Unfortunately, they left before I could get my camera out of my bag. So, I planted myself there for a while waiting for an interesting person to walk by.   Posted: 11/03/2024 12:01:24

I agree with Robert. This is a great photo and how lucky you were to have him wearing that color coat! The cropping and darkening of the bakground made quite a difference in "polishing" up an already great photo. Your timing of snapping this shot is perfect. Excellent!   Posted: 11/03/2024 19:47:31

Thank you, Cindy. For this shot, I used a burst mode (~10 shots/sec). It's the first time I tried it with a street shot. I think it works!   Posted: 11/03/2024 23:27:01

Great shot, and great post work, but seriously, patient and wait is the ultimate success factor in this.
Burst mode is I use all the time now, not only for wild life shots.   Posted: 11/10/2024 14:51:19
