About the Image(s)

This month's image is from the recently restored Michigan Central Station. This building was built in 1913 and served Detroit with railroad service until 1988 when the last Amtrak train left. The building was left abandoned and the scrappers picked it clean of many treasures. A local individual had purchased the property but never developed it. In June of 2018, Ford Motor Company purchased the property and began a one billion dollar restoration project. This restoration has spurned a huge redevelopment in the area. I'm attaching a link to share this wonderful story.

Ford Motor Company had a concert to celebrate the opening of the building on June 6, 2024 featuring Diana Ross and Eminem.

I went with a group of club friends and was able to capture some of the interiors. This small hallway was photographed with my Olympus and 12-40 lens as a handheld HDR, 5 exposures and processed in Lightroom Classic and Topaz Photo AI.

You have a great touch for doing the building interiors. Well designed and a smooth blend. Any thought to using something like a midtones 3 luminosity mask and curve to push a bit of the contrast back in?   Posted: 07/15/2024 20:48:39

Thank you Rick. I seem to have found a niche for architectural photography. I guess working in the architectural design and construction field helps. I wish I could find the time to really get into luminosity masking. Any objections to the blue window or doors?   Posted: 07/15/2024 21:17:52

Hi Bill, No objection at all. I think the cool tone plays well against the warmth of the interior lighting.   Posted: 07/16/2024 02:54:36

This is a great building that I've watched its restoration progress on TV the last few years. I have a lifetime interest in trains and wonder whether its function as a train station might be restored in future (especially with thoughts from Amtrak about restoring a Chicago to Toronto service). I think the blue is a bit too intense and could be toned down a bit; on the other hand, it's a great complement to the yellowish color of the image.   Posted: 07/16/2024 21:23:16

Bill, Well done with the mixture of colors. The dark area at the bottom was likely done this way to detract from the rest. You are great doing architectural pictures.   Posted: 07/24/2024 02:11:50

You have certainly gone architectural on us the past year or so! Great job Ford for putting money back into the community. A really nice simple image that is well done on your part. I think the image could use a pinch more contrast/clarity or dehaze, all have a different effect. The blue color works nicely, but perhaps a little intense for my taste.   Posted: 07/24/2024 16:59:06
