Dead Tree and Cows by Jane Ballard

September 2023 - Dead Tree and Cows

About the Image(s)

I have absolutely nothing new and interesting to submit. I haven't shot anything good HDR for a while - I dug through archives today and couldn't find anything. So...here's a single shot I did a further edit on today using the Camera Raw filter. I understand if you don't want to use it since it is technically not HDR. I've really been in to shooting multiple exposure and intentional camera movement images lately.

Dead Tree and Cows (yeah, really original title)

This is a nice peaceful scene with the cattle, the bushes, and most of all, the interesting tree with storm clouds behind it. The clouds, masked from the tree and base images, if darkened a small amount, might make this picture better yet. It is good photography, Jane.   Posted: 09/13/2023 21:12:21

A nice core scene. While not HDR in the literal sense, you can tone map a single image in your HDR software. That will flatten the tonal curve and give you a nice base to rebuild the contrast in the areas you want to lead the viewer's eye to.   Posted: 09/16/2023 13:42:16

A pleasant, pastoral scene. I agree with Rick that this image would be improved by tone mapping in HDR software, hopefully would bring out some detail in the cattle which are almost silhouettes at present.   Posted: 09/18/2023 10:16:13

This is a nice scene and perhaps cropped a little too tight. Also looks like you could use a little noise reduction as well, not sure why at ISO 400. A little more detail from the cows would also help.   Posted: 09/18/2023 10:58:34

Thank you all for your kind comments even about a crappy image! I'm hoping I'm coming out of my slump and creating better images! I have some new stuff for the next round that I'm feeling much better about!   Posted: 09/22/2023 09:36:13

Love the scene.
Perhaps "Cows grazing at the old tree"

There is a a lot to be said to EDR (extended dynamic range) in ACR nowadays, I do less HDR now since the cameras's dynamic range has improved and certainly the ability to pull details in the shadows and highlights has improved a lot.
I would have liked to see the SOOC version to see what the software was able to achieve. The sky, clouds, ground and tree are good, but the cows are still dark to my taste   Posted: 09/25/2023 12:26:31
