This is a rework of an image from a 2015 trip to Yellowstone. It was shot with a Canon 5D MK III and 24-105 liens at 47mm from the Blak Tail Overlook. The first time I did this the colors were over the top. I’ve reprocessed the raw files and run the results through Aurora 2019 on the Modesto preset with some added tweaks. That result went into Photoshop where I used the old Topaz Clarity filter for some added contrast and a second layer masked to a selection of just the mountains intersected with a mids 3 luminosity mask to refine the contrast there. The sky was cropped to what I felt was a minimum as it was bare. Just sizing and sharpening after that. Hopefully the colors are a little more realistic this time around.

Well done, Rick, your re-processing really brought out the detail and color throughout the scene. Is that a fog-shrouded valley in front of the mountains?

Hi Don, Thanks. Yes, there was a dense layer of fog over the Snake River that morning.   Posted: 07/15/2025 21:56:05

Looks very good with your composition and the color in the foreground. Good choice to crop the sky and emphasize the foreground with all the different colors. The fog also adds to the interest in the scene.   Posted: 07/16/2025 16:28:55

Well done. I like the postcard like feel of it. Colors pop.   Posted: 07/26/2025 23:49:28

Having been here and experiencing the same issues I believe you have done a terrific job of capturing the moment and the early morning sun on the Tetons.   Posted: 07/27/2025 17:37:36
