Card Door Colors - Natures Gift by Max Burke, APSA

April 2025 - Card Door Colors - Natures Gift

About the Image(s)

The picture of this car door was taken Sept 23, 2011 at LLC Classic with over a thousand cars, trucks etc.

The Nikon D7000 with a 18.0 - 200.0, 3.5-5.6 lens. The focal length was 40mm. I made three images using 1/200 sec F/8 and ISH 400. I used other settings of 1/800, 1/50 sec.
I used two stops on each image. It turned out pretty good and did some touching up with some areas. Worked it over with Camera Raw and kept it at desired levels of color and touched up other colors on the edges. I will soon make a collection of painted doors and body parts of cars and trucks. I intend to make a projection show of these features. I will also make a personal picture book of these eventually.

So is this an old abandoned car wreck or a classic car that's restored with an unusual paint job?
HDR is well done, good use of complimentary colors.   Posted: 04/07/2025 19:44:07

The colors are pretty cool if they are natural. I like the shadow of the handle to fill in the space. Perhaps a pinch too bright, a little darker would probably enhance the saturation and texture.   Posted: 04/16/2025 18:19:35

I find the concept and subject interesting. The core of the image seems solid to me. I do find the plain color of the body to the left of the door junction to be light enough as an area to keep pulling my eye away from the main portion of the image. The door handle and shadow work effectively both as a leading line for eye direction and as a blocking diagonal to help me stay in the image. I feel your choice of placing the handle in the upper left is effective as my eye always returns there. The blend looks smooth, but overall the image seems a little washed out. That may have to do with a color palette you were looking for, but after a bit of "playing" I convinced myself I felt it was stronger with a bit more contrast and slightly punchier colors.   Posted: 04/19/2025 03:08:00
