Red Door by Brad Ashbrook

April 2025 - Red Door

About the Image(s)

This was photographed in Brugge Belgium during our cruise last year. This is only a 3 shot HDR processed in LR based around 1/250, f13 at ISO 800. Liked the lead in flowers to the red door and old style church. Basic raw adjustments, straighten, enhanced the colors of the door and NIK for some additional contrast.

Good HDR treatment, Brad. I suggest that you crop about half of the foreground. as it is it is almost half the image. Perhaps also lighten the door just a little bit.   Posted: 04/07/2025 19:33:39

Good initial impact. The tones and blend look smooth and realistic to me. You seem to have been running into the same lighting I have found when digging back through my files. I can see what Don is talking about, but do not find it over balanced as a result due to the strength of the red as it contrasts with the green. Don suggested boosting the luminosity of the red in the door, but that may end up looking artificial if it is then lighter than the building itself. I'm thinking of a possible alternative move with a Selective Color layer masked to the door and working on the Reds that way. The one bit that does seem odd to me, and it may well just be as I am viewing it, but there seems to be more contrast in the foreground than in the building and I would expect the opposite given the lighting.   Posted: 04/19/2025 02:22:05
