March 2025 - Keukenhof Tulip

About the Image(s)

his is another from the cruise back in March of 24. The original was a 3 stop track around 1/200, f11 at ISO 400 with a 24-70 and Sony A9. Did a batch process in Photomatix to save time since there were a bunch. The original flower looked pretty good but the background seemed to alignment errors. So I decided to use an original background and blend the 2 in PS. It has been a while since I tried this which was a little tricky. Required some clean up around the edges with the healing brush and a small crop off the bottom. Then I took it into Color Efex for a straight vignette and tried their blur vignette, which I liked the effect. The corners were still a little lighter than I liked so I also did a std vignette back in PS. Interesting all along, the histogram says there is no blown out highlights, but the tips still seem to be pretty bright.

You described an interesting technique. I like the end results. Everything appears to be natural and the colors look good. Upon closer examination some flower tips appear to be blown out.   Posted: 03/11/2025 10:17:42

That's what I thought even though the histogram is clear of the edge.   Posted: 03/11/2025 10:51:44

I agree the result of your process is a pleasing image. My guess on the edges would be that if you check the Red Channel you will find there is no detail present which could effectively be a blank area for a color heavily dependent on red content.   Posted: 03/12/2025 13:59:44
