Old Mill by Don Poulton

January 2025 - Old Mill

About the Image(s)

Last summer, I came across this old mill from the 19th century near Kingston, Ontario. I shot the usual brackets and tone mapped them in Aurora HDR 2019. I then reduced the color saturation of the stream in Lightroom.

Really nice lighting on the scene. The blend looks good to me. If you were there in the spring, then the yellow in the foliage of the tree on the left makes sense, otherwise I might try shifting it more towards the tone in the tree on the right edge. I know it was a part of the structure, but I just have an itch that wants to eliminate the pole running up in the center because I can't keep my eye off it and just enjoy the rest.   Posted: 01/16/2025 00:40:31

Thanks Rick. I was there at the end of June, so yes, I should adjust the color of the left tree more towards green, and really yes, the pole should come out, it appears to cut the image in half.   Posted: 01/16/2025 15:40:42
