About the Image(s)

This image is of the Soldier cemetery at Fort Sheridan Illinois. I was using my DJI Mini 2 Drone with ISO 100 and F2.8 with a polarizer. It is Hdr with 3 photos with speeds between 1/500 sec and 1/1800/sec. I used Photoshop to replace the blue sky, and add a flag although there was a flag elsewhere in the Cemetery. I was impressed by its symmetry.

This photo speaks volumes! The symmetry is profound and sweeping. The sky and flag are excellent additions. The ye follows the headstones - on and on and on. Why is the grass so brown? An American military cemetery follows this type design. When I was in Luxembourg I went to the German military cemetery. It was much different than an American military cemetery.   Posted: 09/19/2023 13:03:04

Thank you Mark for your input. I actually think the grass is greener but when I reddened the color for the light from the orange in the new sky,it came out brown. Unfortunately the trees do not depict fall colors. Maybe to rework.   Posted: 09/19/2023 15:13:00

Go ahaead and make color correction but use history brush to restore color of the grass.   Posted: 09/20/2023 12:30:42

tried history brush but I do not think I saved it correctly in this rendition. I saved it along the way and was able to alter it. I think the green has it. Hopefully I did not oversaturate. Thanks Mark.   Posted: 09/20/2023 17:59:42

The green looks much better. Yet, colors on flag are distorted. The history brush is pretty neat. You need to have a window open displaying the history. When you add an effect or filter - click the box on the previous version and then use to hidtory breush to remove effect from all or part of image.   Posted: 09/20/2023 18:28:11

Thanks Mark. The flag is Ai generated. I worked on the photo after, with Layers and Opacity. That messed up the flag.

I will have to try the history brush.   Posted: 09/21/2023 16:17:45

Great image Harley. I love the symmetry here and enjoy going to national cemetery's to photograph also. I really like your original treatment of this image. The tans and browns of the ground match the sky very well and look like they belong. Since the grass was green when you took the shot--this is the artists rendition and that is perfectly OK. Everybody takes the shot (although not from a drone) with the green grass. National Cemeteries evoke a certain feeling and I think your creation here amplifies that feeling in your viewer. My only suggestion would to be to try to color correct the roadways as they appear reddish.
Great work on this one.   Posted: 09/24/2023 18:18:28

Thanks for the feedback Bruce. Now that I recall the editing of the image, the brown grass did appeal to me. I may have unconciously found it appealing because the Fall like dieing or resting grass is in keeping with the mood of a Cemetary. I don't necessarily THINK when adjusting color. Interesting

Good catch of the road color also.   Posted: 09/25/2023 10:24:35

Correction. I grabbed a previous sky though. Any preference.

Harley, they are very similar, but my preference is your original sky. I like the saturation better there. The road does look much better in your updated version. though.   Posted: 09/25/2023 12:41:20

Bruce, I agree with you on the skys. The one I just put up is a previous image which has the same foreground. it will easy to swtch the skys. I may actually print this one. This is fun. Also, shame Linda left.   Posted: 09/25/2023 19:46:33

We will all miss Linda. She always had insightful comments and visual examples. I understand why she left though. She was in about a half dozen groups and that is a lot. I know she wanted to do some other learning also. Only so many hours in a day.   Posted: 09/26/2023 09:16:06

This tells is a very impactful image because of the composition and color make your eye move around and through the image. The sky makes your eye go back to the subject and the color unifies the image. Having said that, my one suggestion would be, to desaturate the gold a bit. It tends to pulls my eye on the left side. Wonderful image.   Posted: 09/26/2023 11:18:02

Thank You Lane. I am not sure if you mean gold on the ground or in the sky ?   Posted: 09/26/2023 16:15:18
