About the Image(s)

This image was made in West Virginia, a coal mining town. I thought this depicted the mood and somberness of the coal mining town. It was shot with a Canon 5D mark III. ISO 200, 70 mm, f/5.0 ,1/640sec. Processed and and converted to Back in White in LR.

I love Black and White. I feel like you captured the mood in this image. It makes me feel sad and sombre. Lots of good men and women have been buried here that may have worked in the mines. It tells a story of life and death. The strong healthy tree standing in the middle of the graves. The fog gives the image a cold feeling. The only thing I would like to see is more room in the foreground.   Posted: 11/06/2021 16:09:58

Now this is an image that "tells a story". It is a remarkable
thing when our photography can do that! The tree is the centerpiece but it eventually yields to the headstones beneath it. The sky and fog complement the image. I stared at this a long time. Wonderful as a B&W. All the tones are there. Good job!   Posted: 11/07/2021 09:41:52

A nice moody image Lane. I really like cemetery photos as they seem so peaceful. Your monochrome conversion adds to the mood as do the wonderful clouds and fog. I think your composition is very good giving the viewer a balanced image with visual hooks throughout. I spent a good bit of time in in that state back "in the day" and miss the mountains of that area of the country. Nice shot.   Posted: 11/09/2021 10:43:28

Very good mood with the fog behind the cemetery. I would crop the left a little bit to make the tree not tooo close to the centre. Good job!   Posted: 11/09/2021 20:43:07

Great shot. I cannot think of much to say other than what has already been said. Agree with Linda about foreground, if it is there. I took some recent cemetery photos at the Navy Base but none captures the mood like this one. Happy Halloween.

This image grabbed me. I am a nerd for black and white, and this is a perfect illustration of why. This is an exquisite execution of a feeling. If this was just the landscape, without the cemetery, I don't think the monochrome would be as powerful. This story needed to be black and white. the positioning of the larger tree is perfect, with the lighter elements of the clouds between the ridges of the hills. The hills themselves are wonderful framing elements to bring our eye to the tree, then down throughout the image. The tonal range and exposure are right on the money. There is serenity balanced wonderfully with drama here. Very well executed, Lane.   Posted: 11/29/2021 12:19:34
