I believe this needed a higher shutter speed. The face and eyes are a bit soft and the focus appears to be on its left shoulder. Also, the glow on its toes is a bit distracting and I would tone them down.   Posted: 08/13/2026 01:49:17

I really like this little fellow. He seems to be deep in thought. Catching a behavior is a big plus with animal photography. I can see you had tough conditions. The pole is overexposed and distracting. Eyes, nose and mouth are not in focus. I use spot focus or manual focus for this type photo.   Posted: 08/13/2026 22:46:02

This is a nice capture of an interesting subject. At 1/10 sec with that high of and ISO, I'm thinking this was a really dark environment. I'm seeing some artifacting in the fur. The "moustache" is sharp, but the rest of the frame soft focus. The color harmony in the image is nice and it tells a nice story. Great moustache on this little guy. Zoo photos, especially inside ones, are tough to take. Low light, reflections from glass, poles and fences and usually lots of little kids. All of that makes for some difficult shooting. That said, you have captured an interesting pose of a really cute monkey. Looking at your shooting data it appears you were at your limits in speed, ISO and focal length and still did have enough light. Some zoos allow Monopods which would help a lot with this. Sharper is better and monopods help. I like your shot and I like going to the zoo, although it is tough getting great stuff there.   Posted: 08/22/2026 16:07:03

I was just about maxed out on the ISO that is tolerable with that camera. I was at Racine zoo in Wisconsin and they allowed tripods. I do have a monopod with legs at the base which come out if you need them. I didn't bring it with that trip.   Posted: 08/22/2026 16:24:06

I love this little guy. I think with what you were able to capture, you did a wonderful job. Looks like you blurred the background a bit more. What comes to mind (you may disagree) is that the monkey may need a little more breathing room around him. Giving it more space on the right and bit more on the top would bring his face into the cross section if you use rule of thirds. Just a suggestion.   Posted: 08/22/2026 16:59:49
