This was shot with my Olympus OM 1 ISO400, 100mm f5/6 @ 1/125 sec. Sorry, to upset you with another icey hydrangea! I did a series and won’t show you all of them but got intrigued with the ice on the petals.
Spring is trying to Sprung, so you can look forward to some bright, spring flowers from me. My daffodils have almost finished blooming, although I have some that bloom a bit late. The peonies, Iris and azaleas are getting ready to pop. ( Of course, we can still get a random snow storm or frost and then I can’t promise you ………..)
This image was difficult because of all the branches in the bush, the hot spots from the ice and getting it before the sun was able to melt it. I replaced the background with one I made. Bruce had commented that he didn’t like the background on my last image , so I changed this up a bit. ( I like the contrast of the black background.) Bunny and Harley didn’t see the" Ice Dancers” in my image. It is an abstract and I see dancers or cirque du soleil performers!

Wonderful image! I love the texture of the background. The dead hydrangeas with the dripping ice make for a good subject. It's Wabi-Sabi, beauty in imperfection, and you've captured that aesthetic perfectly.   Posted: 04/16/2025 00:23:33

Lane you put a great deal of thought into this. You decided on the cocept you were using with this flower. It is a light painting of life and death. You have captured the ice perfectly. Backgrounds are always challenging. The frosty white is good for the ice, but, possibly not the best for the brown hues in the flower. I think the brown hue is what you need to concentrate on. I am thinking a mid brown or black.   Posted: 04/16/2025 22:03:33

Thanks for your commentary on this Lane. I do like the texture and detail of the flower heads. The "ice dancers" add the interest and create a focal point. I think Bunny's Wabi-Sabi take is the way I feel on this too. Interesting and it stands on its own with the beauty one finds within.
As for the background, black is OK I just thought that it was was just a bit much last month that is all. I like this one. The texture enhances the ice on the flower. Looking forward to Spring flowers myself. It has been too cold too long.   Posted: 04/16/2025 22:18:26

Lovely description and story, focus and color. Composition works well and seems balanced. I liked it somewhat better flipped vertically and horizontally but the ice does not fit that model. Background looks excellent. You do have quite an imagination, I should say.   Posted: 04/16/2025 23:59:41
