About the Image(s)

I was in the town of Cripple Creek, Colorado - an old mining town. I saw this old train car. It was shot in high key, slightly overexposed. Once I had it in Photoshop, I cropped to the panorama, then overexposed the background a bit more. I finished with a slight "painterly" filter. I also include the black and white for review.

Please let me know you have received this.

Debbie, I like the high key treatment you've rendered here. The choice of a panoramic cropping works well with this image. I prefer this painterly version over the black and white. It has a nice stillness to it and can see it hanging in a gallery with a nice bench in front of it for contemplation.   Posted: 04/03/2026 18:16:38

An interesting picture. I like the way you have used an overexposed vignette to isolate the subject. I wonder if it would be improved by removing the foliage bottom right, and softening that on the right hand edge? The other thing I wonder is who were the people riding on this train? Where were they going? What happened to them? If a picture can kick start the imagination, it has succeeded.   Posted: 04/06/2026 09:37:57

Great suggestion! I submitted it in the creative division of my camera club. It did well. Thanks   Posted: 04/09/2026 14:51:35

Welcome Deborah,
You show us how it is possible to create a number of versions from an original capture. My preferred version would be the original if cropped like version 2. For my taste your final version is too wishy washy;Don't we all see things differently!   Posted: 04/09/2026 18:40:51

I always like to hear how people see my images. I truly appreciate your insight.   Posted: 04/09/2026 19:21:26

The image of the train is so interesting I think that the foliage to the right front and behind both detract from the main subject i e the train. I would use the remove tool or patch tool on them and just leave the narrow row of bushes in front of the train. The letterbox crop on the final version works very well and draws the attention to the interesting detail on the train. I like the 'faded' version.   Posted: 04/10/2026 19:36:17

The use of high key makes this image different and creative. The three images you gave us are fairly similar. I never saw the B&W image, but my eyes are bad and perhaps one of the originals was in monochrome. The use of the panoramic frame is perfect. In fact, you might be able to crop off a little more of the sky, not too much. The idea of an old passenger car is intriguing.   Posted: 04/16/2026 18:15:48
